Don't Underestimate How Many Miles You Drive Per Year

Every leasing agreement at Gillman Honda Houston includes an annual mileage limit, typically between 10,000 - 15,000 miles. If by the end of your lease you end up exceeding this mileage limit, you could be charged a fee for every mile you're over.

For example, if the penalty is 10 cents per mile, and you go over the limit by 5,000 miles, you'll owe the dealership $500. The best way to avoid these extra charges is to understand your driving habits before signing a lease, and to keep an eye on the odometer.

Don't Neglect Necessary Upkeep

Over the course of a car lease, a certain amount of wear and tear is expected. For example, scratches, dings, and stains are considered "allowed", as long as they're less than the width of your driver's license.

However, anything larger could result in you paying additional fees, and so we recommend staying on top of this type of necessary upkeep before your lease expires and you return the car to our Honda dealers.

Don't Lease a Car for Too Long

Applying for a lease through our Honda financing department is a great idea, as long as you don't lease the car for too long. The best approach is to make sure the lease period either matches or is shorter than the car's warranty period, which is typically three years/36,000 miles.

If you keep the car (i.e., you extend the lease) for longer than the warranty period, you should consider an extended warranty. Otherwise, you'll be responsible for any maintenance and repair costs that arise after the original warranty expires.
