When you’re shopping for a value-focused sedan, you will find that you have more than a couple of options. Here at our dealership, we find that people shopping for cars in this segment are looking for efficiency, value, and technology. Thus, we recommend the Honda Civic, a car that has all of these attributes and more. Compare it to similar-seeming cars like the Hyundai Elantra, and you’ll see why it is a segment leader.

Powertrains

The 2020 Honda Civic has two available engines: the base 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder, or an upgraded 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-four. The base engine is good for 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque, while the upgraded turbocharged engine cranks out 174 horsepower and 167 lb-ft of torque. This turbocharged engine is also fuel-efficient, with a higher miles per gallon than the comparable engine on the Hyundai Elantra

On the other hand, the 2020 Hyundai Elantra also comes standard with a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine. However, the power outputs of 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque fall short of those found on the Honda Civic.

Safety

This new Honda car comes with the Honda Sensing suite of safety features, which is designed to assist and help protect you and your passengers. It comes standard with high-tech features, like:

  • Collision Mitigation Braking System: Helps bring the car to a stop by automatically applying brake pressure when the system determines a frontal collision is unavoidable.
  • Road Departure Mitigation System: Determines if you cross over detected lane lines without signaling and provides steering assistance.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control with Low Speed Follow

While the new Hyundai car has some of these features, some do not come standard and only are included on higher trim levels.
