There are two thins our entourage at Gillman Honda Houston agree on unanimously: we love in-cabin climate control and we love dogs. The two don't seem related, but they are. Dogs love climate-controlled backseats, too. Climate-controlled backseats are but one of many characteristics of the ultimate dog-friendly vehicle. Here are a few other characteristics you can control or look out for.
Backseat Type, Shape, Height and Liftover Height
Fido loves to interact with you during long or short drives. Bucket-shaped seats suit smaller dogs, but bench shapes let your larger or longer dog stretch out. Low backseat height makes it easy for them to stand up and converse as you zip through Houston. Similarly, low liftover height means less space that your foldable dog ramp has to span.
Shades, Doors and Gates
Tinting is terrific on your dog's eyes, which are as sensitive to glare and UV rays as yours. Opt for sliding doors and a roomy backseat; it allows your dog to jump from the seat to the floor and then out the door, which is potentially gentler on aging joints. If it's better for Fido to stay put, invest in a sturdy pet gate. It permits airflow while keeping your dog contained in the roomy cargo area.
