The Honda service professionals here at Gillman Honda of Houston understand that no one likes hearing that dreaded click indicating the car battery is dead. Unless you know how to do it, you could damage the electrical system of your vehicle attempting to jump start it. These tips can help.

  1. Check to make sure the battery cables are fitting tightly. If not, maybe tightening them will get the car to start again.
  2. If jump starting the vehicle is the only answer, make sure you have access to a vehicle with a charged battery and some jumper cables.
  3. Identify the negative and positive battery posts on each vehicle and the negative and positive jumper cable clamps.
  4. Turn the engine off on the vehicle with the charged battery and clamp place the negative and positive jumper cable ends on the dead battery.
  5. Clamp the other positive and negative cable ends to the charged battery.
  6. Start the engine on the vehicle with the charged battery, allowing it to run a few minutes before attempting to start the vehicle with the dead battery.

If the car starts, you can be on your way again. If not, you'll need to seek out a durable replacement battery for your vehicle. We can help at our Houston, TX facility.
