It’s been two years since we learned that the Honda Civic Type R would finally cross the pond (how many years did that take?) to grace our roads, and it still hasn’t sunk in properly. We imagine it will, now that the 2017 model has finally been unveiled. Armed to the nines with a new engine, an exclusive manual transmission, and a metric trunk load of power, we imagine our enthusiast readers are feeling quite excited right now.

The Type R was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, and will also show its face at the Javits Center in New York before going on sale in the spring. Luckily, the hot hatch’s debut in Switzerland gave us some insight into what to expect on the American model. The new Type R will boast a 2.0-liter DOHC direct-injection turbocharged i-VTEC inline-four, and will make 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of twist. Like the new Civic sedan, the torque will kick in low in the rev range, meaning a lot of fun when you step on the pedal.
