In a news conference last week, Honda CEO Takahiro Hachigo laid the groundwork for a revolutionary and groundbreaking new transformation for the automaker, starting in development and expanding across global sales for decades to come. It will change the way that we buy and drive cars in Houston--and it all starts with plans for new hybrid cars.
Honda's commitment to hybrid cars is currently a little underwhelming; with just a handful of (admittedly impressive and well-loved) hybrid-electric Honda vehicles currently on the market, the automaker plans to be able to offer enough electrified cars and crossovers by the year 2030 to account for two-thirds of their global sales.
How will this massive change come about? Mr. Hachigo explains:
"Our appointment of a new head of the R&D center is intended to position R&D at the center of all product development, and make it responsible for the design and performance of each and every vehicle."
He says that they recognize a need for a fundamental transformation in the global market--and he's going to make it happen, by positioning plug-in hybrids at the core of electrification in the future.
We're excited to learn more about their plans for a more fuel-efficient and environmentally-friendly lineup of durable and reliable Honda vehicles.
